What is a legend? What are some legends you know or have heard of? Try to include modern legends, too.

I heard of of the legend of the Scottish loch ness monster and the lake in VT has a monster living in it. A legend is a myth that might be true but can't be proven. Also have you heard of Bigfoot legend in Texas.

Legends are story's and tales that have passed down through thousands of years and that may be true but also may be false. Some legends are the Yeti and Big Foot and Champ in lake Champlain.

Brittany- a legend is a story passed down from generation to generation that could be true.

Well, we all know that they are stories and tales past down throughout time. But it also depends on where you live, and how old you are, the legends are all stretched and along the way they change and transform into completely different things.

Examples of the ones I've heard & Seen:

The Lochness
Champ
Yeti
Bigfoot

Some of these like Champ instead of being legends they could be real because of the proof that it actually was seen. Champ was seen in a picture, so unlike Bigfoot it has some reliable proof.

I am not saying it is not a legend because it is but there is actually proof to make me believe that Champ could possibly be real, unlike Bigfoot which I cannot believe in at all.

legends i think are like stories that have been told for centuries that people have passed down from a person who makes them up or truely believe that they are real. Some legends i have heard of are the legend of the lochness and bigfoot.

ninja reminded me of the yeti legend and i have been told before that there is some kind of lochness monster in lake champlaine or however you spell it. I was wondering if that was considered a legend because it just started kind of as a rumor, are legends like rumors that get spread and retold?

I think Legends are stories that got a little bit out of control. The Lochness monsters is a good example I really dont think there is a monster living in a lake.

Legends are like tales that have been pasted down through generation to generation. They are just cute little made up stories to keep people entertained.

One legend that I know of is the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. I like that story becuase it has a headless horseman in it. I've read the book and I've watched the movie. it's pretty good. Maybe we can watch the movie if we are going to be looking at legends next.

most of the legends i have heard of are like urban legends and that sort of thing. not like king arthur and all that that we read. more realistic and modern stuff that could possibly be true but probably isnt.

A legend is a myth that *could* be true, but there isn't evidence to prove that it is or isn't. It just is.

The biggest legend that sticks out in my mind is The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving. That is my favorite legend.

Of course, the Yeti, Bigfoot, and Loch Ness are all legends that have spanned through time and are just going to keep on cropping up as the years go by.

Legends are things that could possibly have been true but most likely they were horribly twisted.
Some old legends are like King Arthur and legends that indians used to tell.

Some newer legends are things like big foot, the yeti, the lochness monster.
Even things like the Blair Witch Project which I think was completely fake.
