I have been teaching English at Woodsville High School for going on nine years. I teach mostly English 9, along with a few electives (including this one!).
What is a hero, anyway? What are some things that heroes and heroic adventures have in common?

Most heroes are brave, and start out downtrodden. Eventually they rise above whatever problems they have. They always stick up for their friends, and they are loyal.
Most heroes have to save a damsel in distress, or defeat a horrible monster or both. They must work against an evil force in order to accomplish their goal.
Heroes do something that they will always be remember for. They stick up for people and save those in harm. They would rather risk themselves then let a citizen die.
Heroes always do what is right and usually have some kind of ability or power. My favorite heroes are the autobots which means that my favorite villains are the decepticons. SOUNDWAVE!
heroes are people who help others and or save others. heroes aren't really like heroic adventures because well the heroes go on the heroic adventures so yeahhhh
They all start with people who want to over throw a king or someone, then they go on some wild adventure, and they become a king or someone royal, thats how they become heroes. Almost all hero stories start and end this way.
Heroes are all about the rescuing and doing amazing things that normal human beings seem incapable of doing. Unless you think of a hero as a firefighter or a policeman. They often save people also.
They're usually friendly and willing to help anyone. They have things for saving women and then end up falling in love with one of them afterwards.
all the monsters and heroes stories seem like they all have the same formula. all the heroes are all brave and strong and seem to win in the end. ive never seen a hro that lost to a monster.
Just a note: in my post, I don't want you to compare heroes with their adventures, but all heroes with each other, and all heroic adventures. Point of clarification!

On Adventures Heroes usually face danger and save someone and in the end they almost always fall in love with the person they save. Sometimes heroes go on the adventures because they want or need to and sometimes they go on adventures because someone asked them to do it.
The heroes all want to have a good person ruling their city so they all go on amazing adventures that may eventually kill or harm their loved ones. The heroes are people who other people look up to.
I think the difference between heroes and adventerous things are that heroes are the ones that over come their feelings and fears and help others. Adverterous things are the things that the heroes and usually have to go through to help others

OKAY...so what does a hero DO on an adventure? What experiences does he/she have? Are there steps along the way?

Everybody has a good idea on what makes a hero a hero. They all give basic hero qualities.
All heroic adventures have obstacles that make it hard for the hero to finish his adventure, but he usually does.
heroes are always brave and alays win.
heroes do good stuff, not like heroin or other bad stuff

actually there are some heroes with drug problems.
clash of the titans was the most corny movie i've ever watched. it made me want to vomit. but its not that bad.

Brittany- when I see heroes they always wined up saving some one or something or try to hide there super powers.
Heroes also save other people lives that they don't know or they do know.
