Week 13: Heroes in our Culture

What are some observations you might make about heroes and the way they are presented in modern TV and movies? What kinds of things do these heroes (and the villains they oppose) show about our society's values?

Heroes:
I think that nowadays we see that heroes are more of everyday people who lead secret lives and tend to help out the underdog. They don't like to hurt people unless they must and when they do it is to save a friend or the person in need.

Villains:
I think that villains are more everyday people like bank robbers, murderers, and other bad people. They aren't so much people who are trying take the whole world over but more or less people who need help succeeding and they, like always get caught.

In our culture today, a hero is someone who is defined as doing an act of good... it doesn't even need to be an extreme act of good; it can just be something nice that makes them a hero. They are even more of a hero, I think, if they expect nothing in return, yet do it anyway. They are kind and gracious. They always seem to have struggles, but that is what makes them more relatable.

The villains in today's culture don't really have to be actual monsters from a comic book. Mostly, what is considered a villain is someone who does something unspeakable, such as rape, incest, robbery, murder, or kidnapping.

todays heroes are cute, muscular, and there always trying to do good. there nice to people. it was cool how spiderman 3s story was totaly diffrent. like he turned bad over revenge. you never see that happening in hero movies. but it was good.

The heroes in today's culture are people who help people and committ good deeds such as a fire fighter or a police officer. They save someone from danger.

The villains in today's culture are not so much people trying to take over the world as they are people who commit crimes such as arsonists and serial killers, and other people who try to harm inocent lives.

Brittany- I think people hero's these days are all the same no matter how you change them like underdog all they did was make him a dog he's just like superman but just in a dogs form and he even tries to keep his powers secret.

I agree with danielle. We see heroes today as more like everyday people. People like firemen, policemen, doctors, and more. They do something too help others. In movies some of these people that i listed are ocnsider to be heroes in the story.

Villians are more mysterious and get in a lot of trouble. In movies they are usualyl a thief, a killer, or anything that has to associate with something bad. You can tell when someone is the villian in a movie by they way the act, dress, and talk. Sometimes even the music that plays in the background.

Yeah, Katie is right when she said that you can tell villains apart for heroes because of the way they dress, talk, their attitude toward life about happy/good things and in movies there is often music playing when a villain is speaking, it isn't light music but more like heavy, deep, and often loud when they are plotting a plan or just acting out their plan.tu

i agree with what danielle said about heroes and villans, nowadays heroes are always living secret lives as heroes, and villans are not much of villans with powers but just everyday people

nowadays i believe that heroes are always betraid to be muscular and quite handsome, they aren't usually people walking down a street stopping someone from stealing a womans purse.

I agree with Danielle we do see heroes as normal looking people with powers. We don't see them really as monsters or other weird looking things and Heroes are usually the better looking people not the ugly people.

heroes that are in movies and on tv have super powers and they try to save the world from bad people normally but in real life it really isnt that easy to save someone or more than one person

yeah, im a little late with this. but anyway, i agree with danielle about the secret lives crap. none of the new superheroes like to be recognized and tend to lurk in the shadows rather then be thanked and all that.

Yeah, heroes usually seem to lead secret lives.
But if you look at actual heroes in real life, like firefighters and police men,
they don't hide what they are, if they did they wouldn't be able to do their job.

Villains don't seem to hide themselves. If they're evil they show it.
Bankrobbers, murderers, molesters, and rapists.
They don't hide that because they are always doing those things.
